Earth house holiday rentals in Alajuela Province

Magical place! We had a great stay. Virgilio is very kind and gave us a tour of the property and some coffee and banana bread. Truly a unique place to stay. You must drive over a mountain to get into st.elena.

This house is a really gorgeous space tucked away in the jungle, lots of birds and wildlife and very friendly neighbors and pets. We stayed here because it was central to Tenorio, Monteverde, and Fortuna. About an hour-hour.5 to each location by car. All the food nearby was great. Equus and soda la Matcha were our favs. It’s a pretty sleepy area otherwise. Practical advice: 1. Be sure to bring earplugs if you aren’t an early riser because the birds and chickens are very active starting around 5am. 2. We did find a few giant scorpions in the space when we were staying there but it just comes with the territory. Shake out your clothes and and bring slippers to walk around in!

I was so excited to stay at the Hobbit Cottage, and the host was absolutely lovely. The property is in a beautiful location, and we truly appreciated the warm hospitality. Unfortunately, we encountered tarantulas and decided to leave earlier than planned—it may have just been a bad day, but it was a bit challenging for us. That said, nature lovers would likely enjoy this unique stay. The cottage is tastefully decorated and conveniently located near some of the best hiking areas, parks, and hot springs

Great little cabins in nature with a little ruisau just below that you can hear sinking at night with the noise of animals! Awesome! The accommodation was extremely clean and perfectly suited for our family (2 adults, 2 children). David had even provided us with a crib for our little one. El Salto is a short walk to swim in the river. There are a few restaurants within walking distance and otherwise the center of Fortuna is about 5 minutes drive away (it is doable on foot but not light so we didn't do it with young children).

Kris and Marie are exceptional hosts. They have built their own peaceful paradise. We enjoyed the eco friendly and vegan hosting and we particularly liked that they were so helpful and communicative. They helped us book transport from La fortuna and they had loads of helpful recommendations for things to do and places to eat. The breakfast is brilliant. Very filling and the pancakes and Açai bowl we really enjoyed alongside our chai tea. This is a unique place built by them, with an eco toilet and they live upstairs while you have your own space and privacy downstairs. We also did the yoga with Marie which we really enjoyed and was worth every penny. The accommodation is on a steep dirt road which we did walk up a few times and used taxis when we were too tired. Kris kindly picked us up from where the shuttle dropped us when we arrived as it would have been really hard to climb up with our suitcase. We also got to see monkeys at the bottom of the road!

Very great place where you feel right at home! We had great conversations and you can really highly recommend it:) from there we made excursions to Carara National Park and to a crocodile/bird boat tour. What you should know is that there is only cold water in the shower but with the warm temperatures that was no problem at all.

Awesome place. I usually only stay in high end locations and this was a good fit. Great value and excellent location.

Fantastic way to end the celebration of 40 years of marriage. The Hobbit House was just like Tolkien would have wanted it!!

The setup is very cute! The Rio Celeste is a super short walk from the Airbnb. It felt like a private sanctuary in nature. All to ourselves. Loved it!
