Holiday rentals with a kayak in North Shore

This home was very nice, and the private little beach was perfect for our little kids. Home was clean and we had a great time. Only thing I would want other guest to know is that if you plan on cooking your meals like we did, you want to bring a cutting board and peeling knife with you and maybe some mixing bowls and spices. We managed but I would have brought all that had I known. I would still highly recommend this home.

Loved this house on the lake. The stars from the dock were spectacular! Stacie was a great host and the instructions were easy and clear. The house is comfortable and cozy.

This is a beautiful, remote getaway. This is not a place to go if you want 10 restaurants in walking distance; this is a place to get away from the rest of the world and relax in gorgeous natural surroundings. Everything was in great condition; we made full use of the kitchen to bake bread and pizza, and played down in the arcade for a good chunk of our weekend. I particularly want to call out the host's flexibility: we visited during a winter storm, snowing us in such that we couldn't get out until late the final day of our stay. The host was completely understanding and we felt no pressure to leave given the unusual situation. To that point, note that the driveway is very steep and relatively narrow; if you're arriving in the rain or at night it'll pay to be extra careful. But it's absolutely worth it!

Had a great time here…it’s one of the nicer ones I’ve been to…felt like we were in a post card picture it was so beautiful with the river running through. The host was great too. Would definitely recommend this place.

Stephen's house was exactly what my family needed for a relaxing long weekend to be together. The house suited our needs extremely well with so many places to gather but also comfy spaces to curl up and read or take a nap. The deck overlooked the beautiful yard and view of the water with plenty of seating for all of us. The sunroom was enjoyable from morning til late at night, listening to the owls. The kitchen was well stocked and large enough for multiple cooks. My adult children enjoyed kayaking several times, especially since the house is tucked away from the main part of the lake, so we had very little water traffic. We only ventured out once to visit some wineries and pick up a pizza, preferring to just stay and enjoy the setting, although there was information about things to do in the area. This was our first of hopefully many visits to SML and I don't think we'll bother to search for a different house. We're already talking about our next time there!

Excellent hosts! The design of this house is amazing for family or friends getaway and it is beautiful and very clean. We enjoyed a friends weekend when it was cold, but the view of the lake and numerous seating arrangements were perfect. The kitchen is well stocked with all cooking necessities and a large variety of spices. We would love to be here in the summer and take advantage of the dock and kayaks and venture out to the local area.

Peaceful is the best way to describe this retreat. We had 3 generations of family along with our active dogs and everyone had a great New Year’s holiday. The home was well cared for and the setting was serene. Close enough to obtain all the necessary provisions but far enough away that for most of they stay everyone just hung out together. I would definitely recommend and hope to stay again.

I offered five stars. There were a few tiny things that need attention—which happens when one’s property is being handled with a management company and not the owner unfortunately. We prefer more personal stay, but chose this property because of location. We do not regret it at all!!! We did notify the management company and they were quick to respond. Beds are perfection. Pillows are perfection. The space and view are perfection. Lots of water toys. We rented a boat and jet ski from across the water for two days, so the dock was AMAZING!!!!! We spent most of our time on the water. Would stay again.

Ben was a perfect host. Very communicative and will do whatever it takes to make the stay as good as possible. Beautiful property and very cool layout with multiple dwellings on the property. So many beds! Great lakefront just an easy walk down from the main house. The deck with fire pit and outdoor TV along with the wiffle ball field make for a great place to hangout and spend the day with your group! Would definitely book again!

Hummingbird cottage was just what we needed to celebrate our daughter's birthday. It gave us the peace and serenity that we needed and provided some well deserved relaxation.....carefree quality time with the family. The cottage was cozy, had everything we needed for our stay and just perfect!! Taylor kept us a breast of what to expect with the inclement weather that Virginia experienced last week. She was very quick to respond to questions we had, the weathere turned out great. The check in and checkout process went seamless. Thanks Taylor for time well spent and another memorable weekend!!

A Nautical Nook was a peaceful place to spend Labor Day Weekend with our two dogs and college-age kids. We loved the dock and used kayaks each day to paddle up the lake. Our dogs loved chasing a ball in the backyard and swimming with us at the water’s edge. The location is close to Smith Mtn Lake State Park and Mariners Landing, the latter where we ate dinner three nights, rented wave runners one afternoon to explore the larger lake, and played golf one afternoon. Robert’s kitchen had all we needed and the screened in porch was great. We didn’t have any issues during our stay but up until our visit Robert was very responsive so we imagine he would have been quick to respond had anything been needed.

We came to the area to take care of some personal business it was cold and I never met the host but the place had everything you needed and then some. First aid stuff, toothpaste, condiments in fridge, spices and more. There was a book with local things to do and restaurants. Felt right at home and our doodle enjoyed the fenced in area. It was clean and better than described!

We enjoyed a wonderful long weekend stay at the cabin. The surroundings are beautiful and had we been in the area to enjoy ‘lake life’ this cabin would be a perfect fit. We were in the area to visit some museums in Roanoke and usually stay in hotels, but our dogs tend to bark and that bothers the other guests. As the cabin is dog friendly, we were able to crate them for a little while, while we enjoyed our day. Our host provided plenty of towels for our use, though we were surprised that there were no washcloths provided. When I mentioned this to our host, she said they’d take that recommendation for future guests. I’d also suggest that a box of tissues would be a nice addition (fortunately we had one in the car). But this is nitpicking, really. Bottom line - it’s a beautiful cabin and the surroundings are the same. Any lake loving boater would be right at home. And our host was friendly and communicative.

So much better than we even imagined! We stayed at Marjorie’s for a quick overnight on our way to Nee England from Florida. It was SO beautiful, meticulously clean and homey. I’m so sad we couldn’t stay longer. We were greeted by the sweetest cat and dog who my son adores. Marjorie even let me son feed the fish in the pond out front. The instructions were super clear, the parking and cabin were easy to find and check in couldn’t have been easier. Really can’t recommend Marjorie and her little slice of heaven enough!

Cute little cabin. Perfect little getaway for a couple or small family. My wife loved all of the bear decor. The ability to bring the pups was extremely convenient. The scenery is incredible. I didn’t realize that the property was on an actual wildlife reserve when I booked. Not too much luck fishing, but did have a few deer walking through the yard and spotted a couple of bald eagles.

Had such a wonderful stay at John’s cabin. Had everything we could possibly need. Would definitely stay again!

Better than the pictures! All amenities worked as expected and the view from the house was breathtaking! Also supper dog and kid friendly which was much appreciated! Plenty of towels and kitchen supplies. Could have not asked for a batter Airbnb stay! 10/10 don’t hesitate.

This was a beautiful get away! The house had everything we needed. The fenced in yard was perfect for our dogs. The Christmas decorations were such a nice touch! Definitely consider coming back in the summer to take advantage of the water activities!
