What a piece of paradise! We absolutely loved Jim's place. We had originally planned to do some sightseeing but loved it there so much we just stayed in - hiking the trails but best of all just sitting on the veranda watching the birds, caiman, and basilisk lizards. The birds were incredible - this is a perfect spot for birders. The house was also amazing - such an interesting design and beautiful hardwood. The house had all of the amenities we needed. Both the upstairs and downstairs verandas were wonderful places to hang out - downstairs in the shade was cool all hours of the day. The ceiling fan in the upstairs bedroom made it cool enough to sleep comfortably. The ponds and gardens were delightful. Jim, Kathrin, and Sebastian were all very responsive. Kathrin was especially helpful answering my many practical questions and providing suggestions for places to see. We would love to come back here again, it is really special!

Snail House gave us the immersive experience we wanted from this area of Costa Rica. We were enchanted by the house, setting, and lush jungle environment. We encountered many species, literally in our living room! From birds and butterflies to monkeys and bugs. Not to mention all the flora! The kitchen is well equipped – from the gas stove to the appliances including a single waffle maker. Cool! The bed is comfortable. Puerto Jimenez is a short drive, has good grocery stores and places to eat. We loved Playa Preciosa. It’s about a 30-minute drive from Snail House, and worth the drive! To our delight, in the Snail House pond, we discovered a young Yellow-Bellied Slider (turtle). We named it Samuel but affectionately call it Sammy. We enjoyed our stay and feel that we had a unique experience in this beautiful area of Costa Rica. Check in and check out were very easy using the lock box at the front gate. Such a lovely spot in the trees. Walking distance to a beautiful beach for swimming, and every morning an incredible pack of monkeys visited the trees around the house! The house is simple (no hot water) but it's clean and well cared for and had all the basic things I needed for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Nice grapefruit and lemons from the land.

Our stay with Janina and Josh was just perfect! Janina was not on site at that time but was still able to give us a lot of tips. The communication with both was very easy and quick. The Airbnb was great, everything clean, everything you need was there. But Josh was much more important! He showed us a lot, be it plants or animals. Josh was a great help on site and a great neighbor. We had a decent sunburn and he provided us with local cream that did wonders! Josh has great contacts in the village and around, there's nothing he can't organize! It felt like coming home. We can really recommend the boat tour with Josh to every guest! If you don't book it, you'll miss a wonderful day on the water! In addition, there is the sweet dog Chico, who was always happy when we came "home". Thank you both, we'd love to come back!
