NAIMA'S HOUSE-Near Shela beach on Lamu Island

Sunrise, sunset and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean await you at this lovely house, 5-minutes from the beach. Shops around the corner. Delicious Swahili food abounds. Sunny, breezy, 3- bedroom home (sleeps 6) with lots of space and a garden. Great rooftop verandah with mini-fridge. Great wifi and work space. Huge, fully equipped kitchen. All rooms have ceiling fans. There is a beautiful 2nd, 3-bedroom unit (Naima's Upstairs) which can be booked for groups of up to 12 people, if available.

Mtende House, Shela, Lamu Island

Built in traditional Swahili style, Mtende house is situated next to bush covered sand dunes in the village just a few minutes walk to the beach. The house is light and airy with a beautiful rooftop for relaxing. As shela is a traditional and cultural village, there will be many noises, children playing , donkeys and the the call to prayer at 5am from several mosques, one is close by. Mtende has an excellent cook, who will also do all shopping and washing during your stay.

Full house ready for guests! The typical Lamu courtyard is the center of it all, a serene space from which all other rooms emerge. The three-story building (475m2) with roof access offers an amazing view of the Indian Ocean under the makuti (typical roof construction from the area made from palm leaves) which protects from the rain and sunshine. This results in a beautiful, spacious and very comfortable house.

Two of the master bedrooms have their own private outside verandah. The house is let on a self cattering basis with a Cook who does also all the shopping and a House boy who does all your cleaning and your laundry.
