Cooks Hill Chalets - Grande

Johanna J.Rating, 5 stars4 weeks ago
This home was everything we needed while visiting my in-laws. We were a group of six and the rooms were comfortable, roomy, and inviting. We walked all over. Starting from Jacqui's place we went down to the harbor for dinner one night. One morning stopped for an early morning coffee at The House of Roast then up to the ANZAC Memorial Walk to enjoy the gorgeous ocean. We felt like we were coming home when we arrived at Jacqui's place. The natural light poured into the kitchen eating area. Although we were just too busy to turn on the TV our whole group was very comfy in the living room area. A couple of us needed to work for a stretch online and the wifi worked fine and dandy. We are so glad to have found this special place. ❤️

A lovely exceptionally clean home in a quiet area. 5 minutes to Charles town shopping centre and 7 minutes to the beach. Lovely soft beds and a fantastic bathroom and shower. Kitchen had all amenities you could ask for, even though we ate out mostly! Would most certainty stay again, hopefully for longer next time!

Palm Cove

We stayed here for a girl's weekend getaway, and it was absolutely perfect. From the moment we arrived, we felt instantly relaxed — the property is so peaceful and beautifully set amongst the trees, making it feel like a private retreat. The house itself was spotless, spacious, and full of charm. We loved the open-plan areas that was perfect for gathering together, and the large kitchen made it easy to prepare food for the group. The outdoor area was a dream, and the surrounding bushland made for such a serene and magical atmosphere. All the bedrooms were comfortable and thoughtfully styled, and there were plenty of spaces to chill out or have a laugh over a glass of bubbles. We especially loved waking up to the sound of birds and enjoying our morning coffee surrounded by nature on the deck. This property made our girls weekend so special, and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful, picturesque, and well-equipped stay.

Blue Moon Getaway

What a great find. wonderful place and hospitality. We only stayed 1 night but could easily stayed longer. it felt very welcoming, squeaky clean well equipped, beautiful and thoughtful little touches which made our stay perfect. Watched the sun rise on one balcony, and the sunset on the other, BBQ on standby and a great swimming beach only a 18 min walk or 4 min drive away. it's a great getaway over the weekend, or a cute holiday place, away from the crowds, but not too far to drive to restaurants or pubs if you can't be bothered to cook. We'll be back soon, I am sure. P.S. very comfy beds Note, no phone reception in accommodation but great wifi, or 5 min walk if you rely on your phone, but seriously, why would you, if in such a perfect holiday spot?

Your guide to Merewether

All About Merewether

Merewether is a coastal neighbourhood in Newcastle on Australia’s southeast coast and home to some of the city’s most well-known beaches. Visitors and locals alike are drawn to Merewether Beach to take advantage of its ideal conditions for surfing, and an international surfing contest attracts pros and sandy-toed spectators from around the world. This stretch of shoreline is also home to the largest ocean baths in the Southern Hemisphere, perfect for sunset dips overlooking the crashing waves.

Merewether’s close proximity to the centre of Newcastle gives you access to all the action downtown in just 20 minutes, from grabbing a flat white at an open-air cafe terrace to sampling the fresh local seafood at one of the area’s elegant eateries among the old miners’ cottages. Merewether is a place to take five and soak up the suburban beach vibe, all while having the breathtaking surrounding rainforests and waterfalls of New South Wales right on your doorstep.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Merewether

The ideal time to visit is the summer — between December and March — which is when the city sees warm, humid days. However, when temperatures are at their highest, it is a great time to cool off in one of the city’s baths like Newcastle Ocean Baths. The city tends to see the majority of its rainfall between March and June, which coincides with the autumn and early winter. Sea temperatures in autumn remain relatively warm, making this a nice time to try surfing. To watch the best in the business, head here for the international surfing competition, which runs for two weeks starting in late January. Springtime is similar in temperature but with less rainfall and cooler waters, so it’s definitely the time of year to plan some hiking and biking at nearby parks.

Like many coastal cities in the country, Merewether provides these oceanside lanes as a way to get the feeling of swimming in the ocean with the convenience of a pool. The bath is also right next to the promenade, where you can stroll after a swim and watch the surfers.

Glenrock State Conservation Area

This large green space is located just to the south of the residential part of the suburb and is where people come to explore scenic hiking and mountain biking paths. Visitors will also discover waterfalls along rainforest trails and be rewarded with views of the picturesque Glenrock Lagoon.

Fort Scratchley
