Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Welcome to Sunny Hill - our country luxe, heritage listed Australian farmhouse.

Set on half an acre of gardens overlooking York, Sunny Hill offers you a breath of fresh country air in a relaxed, beautiful home full of charm, warmth and wonder.

Carefully restored to its perfectly imperfect self, Sunny Hill offers you the space to slow down and relax. Wonderful gardens, beautiful rooms, a cosy fire, parlour games, sunsets over Mount Brown - you'll find many ways to enjoy this original beauty.

The space
Less than 90 minutes from Perth lies York, WA's oldest inland town. Nestled in rolling hills, this little town is a country gem sitting on the banks of the Avon River, and on the edge of WA's wheatbelt.

And sitting on top of a hill, overlooking Mount Brown, is Sunny Hill. A heritage listed farmhouse built in 1870 that once farmed the land surrounding it. Over time the land has become smaller but the outlook hasn't. This farmhouse is filled to the brim with love, warmth and fun.

Sunny Hill is positioned on half an acre of established and newly landscaped gardens. The vision is that in time, it will become an example of a garden marrying native and traditional country plantings to create a very special space.

The house itself is being lovingly restored with revived stonework and timbers. The interior embraces the home's flaws and imperfections as these are the exact things that make Sunny Hill so very special.

And for those people who like a little more detail...

Relax

Sunny Hill has so many spaces to enjoy that if you're like us, you'll never want to leave.

Enjoy the garden and birds from our patio, play bocce on our court, cosy up near the firepit, watch the moon rise over Mount Brown and star gaze to your hearts content or read your book on the antique sea grass lounge on the verandah.

Inside, you can enjoy our comfy lounge and watch the fire, play games in the parlour and listen to some tunes or just chill in our beautifully appointed bedrooms.

Of course, if you want to leave Sunny Hill and explore, York offers bush walking, cafes, museums, old pubs, vintage shops, a fabulous book shop and much more. Northam, Beverley and Toodyay are less than one hour away.

We've developed the ultimate guide for curated day trips with all our favourite experiences.

Sleep

Sunny Hill offers a beautiful master bedroom with ensuite. This room is designed to embrace the unique colours of the wheatbelt and its gums - ochres, clays and pinks. The plush king sized bed is dressed with premium linens, covers and throws. The room also has the perfect chair to snuggle up and read a book.

The second queen bedroom embraces different colours of the wheatbelt - again the soft pinks alongside the beautiful muted greens of the gums.

We do have the option for extra guests in our bunk room with 4 king singles for family visits.

Comfort is the essence however please note, as with many old farmhouses, the bathroom for the second bedroom and bunk room is on the back verandah. So if you do make a bathroom visit during the night, make sure you stop and look out at the stars. It's worth a pause!

Eat.

Our country kitchen includes a four-burner stove, wood fired oven (with instructions if you're keen to try it), SMEG fridge and Dualit kettle and toaster. Coffee lovers can choose between a Bialetti Cafeteria or French press. Tea lovers can enjoy a fine selection of teas and beautiful antique china to enjoy it from. Choose between dining in the kitchen or outside on the terrace.

If you're up for cooking, why not rustle up some country scones (we have the ingredients all set to go) or make a good old fashioned roast to really get in the spirit of our country home.

Bathe

We have an ensuite bathroom for the master bedroom and our old fashioned country bathroom on the back verandah. Don't miss our steel bath which must be around 70 or 80 years old - it's lovely and deep and perfect for a good soak.

Comfort

Reverse cycle air-conditioning is available for all living areas to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer.

Bedroom fans will keep you cool in the warmer months and toasty doonas will ensure you keep beautifully snug in winter. We also have oil heaters for the bedrooms if required.

And of course, we have our beautiful pot belly in winter.

Seriously unplugged

In keeping with our beautiful environment, we have opted not to include a TV, but you can bring a preloaded tablet or iPad to catch up on shows or movies. WiFi is available for our guests.

I love homes with a story to tell and Sunny Hill is just that. This old Australian beauty stole our hearts at the beginning of Covid, and over the past few years I've been slowly renovating her and landscaping the surrounding gardens overlooking Mount Brown in York. She's a special place that has soul and warmth and is filled with lots of love. Our hope is that you love her just as much as we do xx
