This magical 1880s cottage in Hobart’s Battery Point was a wedding gift from a mariner to his daughter 'Marie' and her French sweetheart.
Set on the property where she grew up, the cottage hums with the quiet poetry of the past. Yachts bob nearby at Sandy Bay marina, morning light spills across polished timber floors, and twilight casts a soft and bashful glow.
Beyond the door, Hobart buzzes with life - but inside, time stands still.
The space
Welcome to Marie’s Cottage - a cosy, storybook studio cottage designed for singles and couples. Nestled in the heart of historic Battery Point, and just a 10-minute stroll to Salamanca Market and Hobart’s CBD.
Inside, discover the gentle embrace of vintage elegance - a dreamy queen-sized bed dressed in luxurious linens, a sunlit sitting nook perfect for slow mornings, and a charming en-suite adorned with thoughtful touches throughout. Brew a comforting cup in the vintage-inspired kitchenette, then step onto the wisteria-draped porch to soak in views of Short Beach and the ever-majestic kunanyi / Mount Wellington.
Whether you're curled up with a book, for a nap, playing cards with a glass of wine, or simply enjoying the quiet, this retreat invites you to slow down and catch your breath. With reliable Wi-Fi, air conditioning and heating, and cafés, restaurants, and waterfront just a short stroll away, it’s the perfect base for both adventure and deep rest. And if work must come along for the ride -well, we’ve made it a beautiful place to do that, too.
Unfortunately, the cottage isn’t appropriate for children or pets.
Private off-street parking is available.

Many years ago on my first visit to Battery Point I was mesmerised by soft falling rain and eerie mist seen through the warm glow of street lamps at night. I knew this was it - my tiny historic refuge far removed from the chaos of everyday life where I could rediscover lost values, contemplate life and be immersed in history. I love this cottage dearly and it gives me great joy to share it with treasured guests who can enjoy it when I can't!
