Tucked right in the heart of the village, "Katoomba Slow" is a charming historic cottage offering a peaceful escape in the Blue Mountains. Lovingly restored, the cottage is perfect as a serene retreat or as a handy central base for exploring the stunning surrounds. Ideal for 2-4 guests, it features 2 queen bedrooms and a luxurious bathroom with a deep clawfoot bath and endless hot water. Thoughtfully designed for comfort, the cosy pot belly stove keeps the cottage warm and welcoming year-round.

The space
We invite guests to disconnect, slow time down, immerse in nature and restore.

Katoomba Slow is all yours, only 350m from Katoomba’s high street, 650m from the Train Station and minutes to the many wonders our World-Heritage-Listed Blue Mountains has to offer.

Our little cottage boasts 2 queen beds for you to fall into at the end of your day. Topped with Australian Merino Wool duvets and the softest flax linen, and warmed with toasty electric blankets, sleep comes easy at Katoomba Slow.

Our bathroom is a pleasure to spend time in, with a large clawfoot bath and unlimited hot water to soak your cares away. We have restored the original cast iron handbasin which is a nod to the home’s humble past. Underfloor heating, an antique mirror and sumptuous Italian brass tapware make this room a delight for all your senses. Aesop toiletries and aromatherapy bath salts only heighten this experience.

Amenities in our delightful handmade kitchen include a ‘entertainer’s delight’ double sized Smeg oven, a fridge and freezer, dishwasher, microwave, kettle and toaster. We have both plunger and stovetop coffee makers – you choose!

We stock a basic pantry which includes ground coffee beans, black and herbal teas, salt, pepper and olive oil. Please pop into a shop on your way for supplies or milk if you take it!

We have a large north facing covered deck that captures the sun all day, from where you can sip a morning cuppa watching the sun sparkle as it rises between the trees or watch the twilight as evening descends.

Guest access
We are proudly an inclusive stay and guests of any background or community are welcome here into a safe space. Our ground level porch access, and walk in shower allows us to host those with limited mobility.

Other things to note
Katoomba Slow was originally built circa. 1878 for the miners of the Kerosene Shale in South Katoomba - now the location of the Scenic Railway (a must-see for any visit). When the shale was depleted and the mine closed, our little cottage was transported in the 1890s - along with around 15 others – board by board, up to her current location in the heart of Katoomba village. Such a special and unique history!

Neighbourhood highlights

If you feel like exploring the area, Katoomba Slow is a perfect base to access the World-Heritage listed Blue Mountains and an easy place to find your freedom. Not only is this charming town the gateway to spectacular natural attractions, it’s also an attraction in itself – with wondrous heritage architecture, a thriving cafe culture, and shopping and galleries galore.

Highlights would include the iconic rock formation that is the Three Sisters, the popular picnic area of Leura Cascades, the many experiences on offer at Scenic World where you gain views across the Jamison Valley and can descend below the cliffs into the valley below. Breathtaking bushwalks unfurl from every town along the ridgeline heading west from Sydney, from easy clifftop strolls like the Prince Henry Clifftop Walk to more challenging hikes such as the calf-burning Grand Canyon Track. The Blue Mountains are rich with indigenous heritage, showcased at the new Gathering Place amphitheatre at Echo Point.

The area is also a foodie’s delight – there are many restaurants and bars nestled in historic venues throughout the Katoomba area. Enjoy fine dining at Darley’s restaurant in the century-old Lilianfels; or enjoy a classic high tea at the grand Hydro-Majestic Hotel, served with spectacular views over the Megalong Valley.
