Check out from your daily routine and reconnect with Country, family, friends, and you. Do all the things this wonderful property has to offer or do absolutely nothing while you gaze out towards Frederick Henry Bay, and kunanyi/Mt Wellington beyond.
Your stay at this incredible property, on 15 acres of land, around 30 minutes drive from Hobart is the perfect choice for gatherings of family and friends; sleeping up to 12 people across 6 bedrooms, one of which is a fully self-contained studio.
The space
Please note this listing is the same property as seen in 'The Wandering Possum', which accommodates 10 people only and can be viewed using the following link: airbnb.com.au/h/thewanderingpossum.
This listing - 'A Truly Special Retreat' - caters to 12 (possibly 14) people and includes the fully self-contained studio - 'The Gateway to the Tasman Peninsula' - see airbnb.com.au/h/gatewaytothetasmanpeninsula.
I am able to cater for an extra 2 people should you have a party of 14, with a king single bed and a trundle that pulls out from underneath the bed. Located in the games room with their own TV and Wii, it's perfect for the younger peeps.
You will be delighted with your unique and special retreat with its abundance of trees and wildlife, fresh air and ample space for you to enjoy both the indoors and outdoors. Perfect for entertaining and creating special group memories, the superb indoor heated pool (heated between the months of October and May), stunning views, fire pit, and sunrise or sunset walks in the paddocks, this unique and versatile property is a rare find!
Well set back from the road, a picturesque bitumen driveway leads you up to the home where there is ample level parking, in and around the double carport. Perched in the top corner of the land, the home and immediate surrounds overlook the beautiful undulating land it rests on, down the valley and beyond, towards Frederick Henry Bay and kunanyi/Mt Wellington.
Captured from outside and inside your three-storey residence, the panoramic vista perfectly showcases the breathtaking and ever-changing sunsets from one day to the next. The large deck is built to make the most of this aspect and views, with German engineered retractable outdoor blinds allowing for the deck to be fully enclosed. During summer when the sun floods the deck all afternoon, eventually setting behind kunanyi, the blinds can be adjusted with the sun, or fully closed, allowing the deck to be comfortably enjoyed in any season.
Designed with entertaining in mind and space galore, there is an impressive indoor heated automatic salt chlorinating pool featuring a gorgeous mural by renowned Tasmanian artist, Jamin, with the added convenience of a shower and toilet. Stairs link this fabulous "playground" to the generous games room, where you'll find foosball, table tennis, board games, and an old school Nintendo Wii with ALL the games. A door connects this room to the open plan lounge, dining and kitchen space which has a real "Wow!" about it.
The kitchen is so perfectly apt for this home with its Blackwood cupboards, granite benchtops, gournet electric oven and six-burner gas stove in addition to the slow combustion stove which keeps the house toasty during winter. There's enough room at the dinner table for everyone, making meal times a wonderful opportunity to connect and share ideas, laughs and stories. Double glazed windows and doors are fitted across this central living area and in the master bedroom - with ensuite and king size bed - bringing the tranquil picturesque outdoors inside.
From the kitchen, sliding doors open out to the level rear courtyard garden, BBQ and huge alfresco dining area, undercover for year round use overlooking a beautifully lit garden oasis, complimenting the 3-person spa. In the fully fenced, well-established gardens, you can choose from a variety of herbs, berries, apples, and native edibles (depending on the season) while enjoying an abundance of flora and fauna that also call this special place their home.
From the front foyer, floating stairs lead to the four upper level bedrooms and main bathroom, giving the whole space a loft style vibe, but bigger, and with doors and views; getting the kids to bed will be a breeze! You'll find 1 x queen bed, and 2 x double beds in 3 bedrooms, and a set of bunks with brand new mattresses, located in the library, where you can sample a new bedtime read each night. The stairs also lead downstairs to the romantically styled, self-contained studio, with a fully complemented kitchenette, separate ensuite and sliding door entrance, offering complete privacy for one lucky couple. Multiple indoor and outdoor living areas across the property ensure everyone has their own space, perfect for kids and adults alike.
For those of you who like to clean and do laundry while you're on holiday (some might call us weird, but I say a tidy house = a tidy mind 😊) there's a fully equipped laundry just off the kitchen, with a smart Hisense front loading washing machine and separate dryer, plus supplies for nearly every cleaning job you could think of.
If you can drag yourself away from all this, Sorell is a 10 minute drive where you can find all that you might need from medical services, shopping centres, restaurants, take-aways, chemists, and vets. This property is the ultimate in luxury, privacy and space and provides the perfect setting for making lifelong memories.
Guest access
You will have access to the entire property, excluding the bus and surrounding fenced yard, the double garage under the house and the large shed and immediate surrounds.
Other things to note
The pool is heated from October to April each year, with the heating turned off during the colder months. It is still available for swimming during winter for those who like a cold plunge at a refreshing 9 degrees 🥶
I have a 3 year old moodle - Bluey - and a 6 month old Italian Greyhound - Iggy - who become super excited when we have new arrivals, taking their job as the welcoming committee very seriously. They will bark when you arrive and leave, but are confined to their yard (mostly 🥴) and will settle down quickly. In the event they do escape, you will find Bluey super friendly and keen for pats, while Iggy is far more timid and will hang back behind her big (little) brother.
Being in the bush we occasionally have bugs make their way inside, especially if it rains. If you feel this might give you the heebie jeebies then please consider if a bush setting is the ideal space for you to enjoy your holiday.
