Cottage holiday rentals in Grizedale Forest

We spent 5 nights here at the end of March and start of April 2025. We were really fortunate with the weather and took full advantage of the wonderful location: scaling Slight Side and Scafell on one day, riding to Coniston via the bridleway on another and 'bagging' most of the Coniston fells on another day via Wrynose Pass. We ate in on a couple of nights and also went to the Wainwright's for some pub grub, as well as Stoves for their evening menu. Simon and Belinda's place is very well situated in Great Langdale for all kinds of walks and rides, food and decent pints. The house itself is a lovely place to return to in the evening with easy parking outside for our van and once inside, everything is spotless, well equipped and cosy. We really appreciated all the helpful information on bike routes and walking routes and spent the late evenings by the fire pouring over the Wainwright books planning the next day's adventures. 100% recommended.

The location was amazing and the views were spectacular. This home was exactly what it said on the tin. We were all blown away by it and had beautiful weather to make the most of the outdoor area. The only thing we did notice was that there wasn’t enough wine glasses & champagne flutes. Not ideal when there was 8 women so we had to use half pint glasses. We could have also done with more dishwasher tablets to last the stay. Apart from that it was perfect. Thank you.

Had a lovely long weekend at Gatecroft Barn. The cottage was beautiful and had everything we needed. Kathryn left a delicious cake for us and a doggy basket with treats, balls and blankets for the dogs 😊 The location was beautiful. Perfect location if you want to spend your days out walking and relaxing in the hot tub in the evenings. Thanks again Kathryn.

Such a lovely place to stay, so peaceful and even better in the sun ( which we luckily had). We had such a relaxing stay and the beds were like a dream. Would definitely recommend this place for a break. It was so nice to see little rabbits running around and even better to have a little friend 🐱welcoming us in😊 Would stay here again. Thank you 😊😊

Excellent hosts home made cake lovely welcome pack was very nice touch even put candles on the cake and decorated for my birthday very helpful with local places to visit and eat rose barn was immaculate we felt right at home don’t essitate to book it’s stunning stay thankyou again

We had an absolutely lovely time staying at High Swinside. Diana was an amazing host and went out of her way to make us all feel comfortable. I would highly recommend any of her cottages.

We have just spent a couple of wonderful days walking up penyghent. Moira's cottage was wonderful. Really clean and cosy and stocked with everything we needed. The walk up to pen-y-ghent starts literally right outside the doorstep which is very handy and a comfortable bed is exactly what we needed after the long walk. Thank you Mouira for your hospitality.

The host was incredibly kind, responsive, and went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. They even provided local recommendations that made our trip unforgettable! The location was perfect—close to everything, yet peaceful and relaxing. The bed was super comfortable, the kitchen was well-equipped, and the little extras (like fresh coffee and cozy blankets) made it feel like a luxury getaway. Another amazing stay at Lynn’s beautiful farm! This is our fourth time staying here and each time we have felt right at home. Lynn is the most amazing host; always on hand for advice, recommendations and a friendly conversation, along with providing excellent little touches like fresh eggs, local biscuits, and letting our little boy feed the goats and sheep in the morning which became our daily routine during the stay! Her property is equipped with everything to make your stay effortless. The cottage and the surrounding areas are so peaceful, so if you are looking for an escape to the tranquil countryside then this is the place! We as a family cannot recommend here highly enough for a break in the Lake District.

A wonderful cottage in a fabulous location. Fizz, fresh bread and homemade jam to greet us. Lovely warm and surprisingly large cottage with a gorgeous view of the ford. Great walks straight from the door with wildlife aplenty (sadly no red squirrels but our host did point us to a hotel where we managed to see them). All in all, a cracking place to stay.

Amanda was a fantastic host, taking the time and effort to make sure we had all the right information for the local area in Settle - the recommendations came in very handy! The cottage itself was lovely and we felt right at home in the heart of Settle!

Absolutely loved our anniversary stay at Crumble Cottage. Was everything we needed for relaxation and more On check in, Stewart was on hand and gave us an overview of the place, surroundings and suggested great places to visit and eat. The cottage itself is approx 15min walk into the centre of Cartmel - with great places to eat and drink there We visited the Wolf Predator experience by Grange-over-Sands - it was amazing!! Really enjoyed the comfort of the cottage and the tranquility- Will definitely be back again! Thanks for having us (Heidi & Craig) ☺️

We had a great 2 night stay at the cottage. Really nice inside and comfortable beds. The village is really quiet and nice walks close by, with a local pub which was highly entertaining with the locals full of chat. Would highly recommend a stay here

Catherine is an excellent host, great communication and keen that everything is ok, quick response to queries raised. lovely welcome touch, of milk, cereal, bread, pastries, fruit juice jam, butter and apples and a supply of tea and coffee. Lovely compact cottage with a good kitchen, with a dishwasher and microwave. peaceful and quiet, away from everything but only a short drive in to Kendal

Had a great break at Anthony's lovely cottage.The weather was gloomy but was so good to return to a cosy home after a walk in the hills just behind the house. Hope we can return in the growing season to see it at it's best.

Joan was such a wonderful host! The house was spotless and cozy, and she went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. She even kept the fire going while we were out, which made coming back feel warm and welcoming. On top of that, she gave us fantastic recommendations for local spots to visit—we ended up seeing some great places we wouldn't have known about otherwise. Highly recommend staying here!

Wow! 4 of us stayed here this weekend, and it was amazing, the photos don’t do the room size justice, the log burner was a great touch and so lovely for young adults to sit down and enjoy it. Walkable from every shop and easy walks near by. Great communication. Couldn’t fault our stay.

If I could rate this 10 stars I would have. Great location, cosy but just right fit for our family of 5, great amenities and amazing decor (even a male philistine like myself can appreciate it so it must be good). Can’t thank Matthew and Liz enough for making our stay so enjoyable. They even provided spectacular weather at no extra charge 😬. Will hope to come again soon!

This was a beautiful spot, nice & private & accessible to the lake for a beautiful sunset pic opportunity. Very clean & tidy on arrival & we tried our best to leave it as we found it.
