Holiday rentals with outdoor seating in Fern Forest

David and Chrystal are amazingly thoughtful hosts. Their home is beautiful, and it’s so generous of them to share the Whale House with others. The house is perfectly maintained, and we especially loved the front porch and hammock chairs. A special treat was the cliff and chairs that are part of the property and allow you to enjoy the ocean view. We also loved the sounds of the rainforest at night. All in all, it was a fantastic stay for our family, and we can’t wait to return next year. What was especially thoughtful was that I’m allergic to scented laundry detergent, and they were so kind to rewash the linens in unscented detergent. Thank you again! Mahalo.

Our cottage was exactly as described. Jacklynn was so nice, helpful and available. She provided us with great recommendations on local sites and excursions. Our time at Puna rainforest was absolutely perfect! Highly recommend!

When first stayed at Diana and Jack’s place the first time several years ago, my husband and I hoped we would be able to return. Fortunately we had the opportunity to stay again and are so glad we did! This time we stayed for 8 nights and it was perfect for us to relax and enjoy all that the Big Island has to offer. We both worked and had plenty of space to spread out. It was also great being able to cook dinner several times at the Airbnb. The private patio was very inviting. Diana and Jack were fantastic hosts; very responsive and friendly. We hope to return for a third time!

Wonderful place to stay. As a family of 6, there was plenty of space for everyone. Stocked kitchen and laundry was a plus. Super close to Volcano NP. Just the gate lock gave us issues trying to shut it-a little sticky.

Great Well Kept Plantation Home! Felt like being in my grandma’s house. Nice Big Yard with beautiful Puakenikeni Tree! Home very clean!

The location was close to Volcano National park. The house met our needs with a spacious kitchen and plenty of places to sleep for six. There were extra blankets for the chilly nights. Overall it was a great experience.

We stayed at Sam’s for the location and local feel. We loved being so close to so much. It’s such a good spot for Hilo, VNP and Pahoa. We were greeted like family and immediately felt comfortable. Both hits were incredibly accommodating and I am grateful for the flexibility!

Scott’s place is simply beautiful. Directly across the street from Kehena Beach, watched the sunrise over the ocean from my balcony every day. Peaceful, comfortable and Scott was very helpful and responsive. Definitely do your research on the area, if you’re looking for something near a resort or with a lot of shops and restaurants this is not for you. (We knew all this coming in and the location was exactly what we expected and wanted). But there is so much in easy driving distance and so many things to see and places to explore. We really loved our stay here!

This place is excellent— great value, very clean, thoughtfully maintained and appointed, and close proximity to the National Park. Kirsten is a welcoming host- seamless check-in/check-out, answered my questions and has cultivated a little oasis for you to retreat from your day exploring. I would 10/10 stay here again!

Amazing stay at the banana cabana! The area was peaceful and a good center point around Hilo and volcanoes national park. The space is well designed, clean, had AC and washer/dryer. Included beach chairs, grill, and a beautiful veranda to enjoy your coffee. The yard has fruit trees, geckos, and lots of coqui frogs and we were able to enjoy some strawberry guavas as well! Honestly one of the best Airbnbs we’ve stayed in. Also has shampoo, conditioner, body wash, comfortable linens, updated shower. The only consideration is to bring white noise or ear plugs if you are sensitive to noise, the coqui frogs can be very loud at night.

Even we have to drive quite a bit to Hilo but I really love Pahoa and Kalapana. It was so special and charming to us. Thanks David and Jacob for their warm and care. The studio is nice, clean, fit to us and the price is reasonable. I will be back again Love Andrew and Hong

This place was exactly what I needed, great for getting that peace of mind and tranquility that you’d expect, and it well exceeded that. The locals were incredible and the place was great, something little yet so much, definitely worth it and will be staying here longer the next time I’m here

A hideaway and retreat from the world. Koi pond, hot tub, indoor/outdoor living, outside shower and kitchen on the patio. And the bed, the bed was like sleeping in the clouds. Never wanted to leave, it was a challenge to get out and explore Hilo, just wanted to stay in. Visits from Simon the cat were a delight as well!

We enjoyed staying in this place very much. Interior was very modern with good quality. We were especially impressed with the surroundings. The view from the every window was outstanding with tropical plants, trees and sounds of birds, like we were in real Hawaii.

I stayed in this condo with my traveling party for Christmas Day and several days afterwards. This condo was a peaceful location to celebrate the holiday and to enjoy the big island. The condo was quiet, clean, and comfortable for our stay. While the unit did not have an AC unit, there were plenty of windows and floor fans to be comfortable in the temperate climate. The owners were very responsive over messaging to answer our questions. The property manager was also helpful during our stay. The building has private washing machines and dryers, and was able to use them with quarters. A dedicated parking spot was available for the unit so no need to worry about an available spot after exploring. The couch and living room area were nice for relaxation, and there is an excellent collection of movies for quiet days in the condo.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this clean and comfortable condo. The kitchen was well-equipped for cooking and the view from the lanai was so pretty. We both thought the bed was really comfortable and slept well throughout our stay. We also greatly appreciated that laundry quarters and detergent were provided! Check-in was a breeze and communication was great. We would stay again!

This place is a gem! It is spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. If that is not enough to get you to want to stay, there is a beautiful lanai, complete with hammock and a beautiful water view. The unit is located just out of town, so you have an incredibly peaceful neighborhood but the convenience of downtown Hilo minutes away. Carrie, the host, is right on top of communications and is a wealth of information. This rental is attached to the host’s home, but the set up is completely private. We did see Carrie briefly and she was very friendly, but she really respects your space and privacy. Mahalo, Carrie, for sharing this special place!

Great place to stay when on east side of big island. Close enough to a number of different places (so if the weather is cooperating you can easily check out other areas) we didn’t use the pool in the end but checked it out and it is quite nice. Host was friendly and gave lots of suggestions.

Nice private lanai area with table for eating, and comfortable hammock. They have a small cooler and some beach supplies which was very handy. Lots of kitchen supplies if you plan to do some cooking. It was quiet when we stayed. Convient drive to old downtown, banyan park and to the Saddle road. Joe and Cindy were quick to respond to any questions I had.

My stay on the big island was to visit my daughter and family. This was a perfect location with excellent accommodation and a beautiful clean surroundings. The host was responsive and respectful. Pool was awesome!

I enjoyed every day of my month long stay! The view of Carlsmith Park from the room was great. If you feel like it all you have to do is walk practically only 100 feet and you have some great snorkeling. The place is a short drive from downtown Hilo. The one thing I would draw attention to is the lack of AC however using the screen door you get a sea breeze off the water which works out. Sometimes I had to use a fan but the fan paired with the sea breeze was more than comfortable. All in all I would definitely recommend this place
