A day of exploring Black Paris

We begin with a complimentary French breakfast in the neighborhood Saint-Germain-des-Prés at the café Les Deux Magots, where influential writers such as James Baldwin and Richard Wright spent much of their time. We'll explore many historical sites in and around the 5th and 6th arrondissements as we make our way over to the neighborhood of Pigalle. There we'll discover why the neighborhood at one point earned the nickname "Black Montmartre". But no Black Paris tour would be complete without visiting the historical neighborhood, Chateau Rouge aka Little Africa, with its many shops and businesses. You’ll receive an Unlimited Metro Pass that we’ll utilize to get to locations not within walking distance. The tour will then conclude with an amazing meal together at one of the best African restaurants in the city where we can share our favorite things about the day (Meal Not Included In Price).

Once you'll be seated in the charming tasting room in the heart of Latin Quarter, you will discover and taste 4 excellent French wines (2 whites and 2 reds) that you will pair with 4 typical cheeses and some pieces of French baguette. After a quick global introduction about French wine, you will go deeply into the wine regions, the labels of French wines, the grape varietals used etc... All information will be shown on a screen while I will explain in a casual and relax atmosphere details and facts. I'm also here to answer your questions! Wines are coming from small quality winemaker and the cheeses are coming from a famous local cheese shop from the Latin Quarter. You can buy the wine you prefer directly in the place after the tasting session.

I’ll share what life was like for Jews here from the medieval era to the dramatic events of the 20th century. • We’ll begin by exploring the quarter’s iconic Rue des Rosiers and the Shoah Memorial. We’ll also pass by two of the most beautiful synagogues in the Marais. • We’ll stop for 30 minutes at a traditional Parisian tea room (drinks not included), where I will share stories of some of the city’s most famous Jewish residents. • Along our route, we’ll stop in at several bakeries and delicatessens to sample the best Ashkenazi and Sephardic delicacies the area has to offer. We'll begin our visit with a thoroughly Parisian experience: sitting down together over a coffee. We'll get to know each other and I'll give you an overview of three key aspects of our visit--the history of the neighbourhood, an introduction to some of the fin de siècle poets and writers who inhabited the neighbourhood, and finally talk about the English-speaking writers who called Paris home. Feel free to come with questions! Next we'll set out to explore some of the most charming streets in Paris, stopping along the way to see where a number of writers lived: Descartes, Hemingway, Paul Verlaine, Thomas Paine, Jean-Paul Sartre...You'll be able to read a passage of their work at each site. We'll also see important monuments such as the Pantheon, the Sorbonne and the Church of Saint Germain des Près.
