Escape the Ordinary – Find Your Wild.

Dreaming of trading traffic and emails for towering trees and epic views? Tasmania’s wild West Coast is calling.

And now, you’ve found the perfect basecamp in historic Zeehan - The Lazy Prospector, a welcoming cabin for every explorer.

Hike ancient rainforests, bike rugged trails, or simply unwind - soak in the deep bath, curl up by the wood fire, or lounge on the swing bed with mountain views.

Solo or with a partner, come and get lost (in the best way).

The space
When you stay at The Lazy Prospector, slowing down comes with the territory (it’s in the name, after all). We’ve designed this cabin to be your perfect recharge point - before or after tackling Tasmania’s rugged and untamed West Coast.

Blending rustic charm with modern perks, the cabin is stocked for easy living. The kitchen has everything you need - ground coffee with a French press, teas, olive oil, and more. Appliances? A bar fridge, air fryer, induction cooktop, and mini dishwasher - because even lazy prospectors deserve a little luxury.

Stay cool in summer with aircon, or cosy up in winter with a heat pump, wood heater (wood supplied), and electric blanket.

Got gear? We’ve got you. A lockable utility room offers a washer, dryer, and secure bike storage - ideal for tackling Zeehan and Queenstown’s legendary trails.

Wake up to kookaburras, share your mornings with wallabies and native hens, and soak up the quiet.

For those who crave adventure but love their creature comforts, The Lazy Prospector is your kind of basecamp.

As seen in Broadsheet, Hobart & Beyond, Situ, and Qantas Insider.

Guest access
Before you arrive, we’ll send you our digital guest guide with all the essentials - and a few local secrets we probably shouldn’t be sharing.

There’s private off-street parking big enough for your car, campervan, trailer, or caravan.

If mobility’s a concern, there’s a small step at the entrances and a shower “lip” on the walk in shower - nothing too wild, but still worth mentioning.

Other things to note
The west coast may be remote, but The Lazy Prospector isn’t. Tucked on Zeehan’s outskirts, it’s private yet neighbourly, with bushland out back and a lively cast of wildlife - which includes the occasional lizard or bush rat (they’re locals too).

Oh, and a little heads up on Zeehan… it might not be winning awards for its café culture or postcard-perfect charm (unless you’re into gritty, working mining towns), and the attractions aren’t lattes or artisan sourdough. But what it lacks in extras, it more than makes up for with one unbeatable feature: LOCATION.

Smack in the heart of the west coast, Zeehan is the perfect jump-off point for exploring the region’s wilderness and rugged coastline. Stay with us and enjoy the convenience of being close to all the adventure without sacrificing comfort.

Designed for adults, the cabin isn’t suitable for kids or pets, making it the perfect excuse for a kid-free, pet-free escape. Need child or pet friendly options? Just ask - we won’t judge.

Be sure to stock up on supplies before heading west, or visit Zeehan’s IGA. And don’t skip the travel insurance - winter snow and ice can make plans unpredictable, but that’s all part of the experience!

Neighbourhood highlights

The West Coast of Tasmania is raw, rugged, and awe-inspiring—a place where untamed wilderness meets rich history, offering an experience as wild as it is unforgettable. It’s a region that captivates the adventurous spirit and soothes the soul with its stark beauty.

Zeehan, home to The Lazy Prospector, is a town steeped in rich history and charm. Known as “The Silver City” in its heyday, Zeehan was once a thriving mining hub of 10,000 people and the third-largest town in Tasmania in the early 1900s. While those glory days have faded, their legacy lives on in the grand, hauntingly beautiful buildings that line the main street. Today, Zeehan’s gritty, mining-town character adds to its unique charm, with its main street occasionally feeling like a scene from a modern ghost story.

Zeehan’s location is a dream for explorers, placing you right at the heart of Tasmania’s West Coast:

• Queenstown (40 mins): Ride the West Coast Wilderness Railway, admire the grand Empire Hotel, or visit the contemporary Q Bank Gallery.

• Rosebery (20 mins): Discover Montezuma Falls, Tasmania’s tallest waterfall, in this working mining town.

• Tullah (30 mins): Lose yourself in the serenity of its walking tracks and spectacular lakes.

• Strahan (30 mins): A picturesque fishing village with its own unique charm.

For true adventurers, the West Coast offers some of the most remote and untouched landscapes on Earth:

• Ocean Beach, Trial Harbour, and Granville Harbour (20–30 mins): Wild and windswept coastal gems.

• The Tarkine Wilderness (50 mins): Drive out to Corinna and paddle down the Pieman River through ancient rainforests.

• Cradle Mountain and Frenchmans Cap (90 mins): Both close enough for unforgettable day trips!

Whether you’re chasing history, natural beauty, or adrenaline-pumping adventure, Zeehan is your perfect base to explore it all. The choice is yours - what will your West Coast story be?
