Salt Shack is a waterfront stay on Norfolk Bay in Saltwater River — a quiet Tasman Peninsula base about 1½ hours from Hobart and a 30-minute drive from Port Arthur.
Open living faces the lawn and bay, with a covered deck, reverse-cycle heating, and a wood heater for cosy nights. On clear evenings, light the outdoor firepit under the stars.
Light rooms, coastal quiet, easy nights in after exploring the peninsula.
The space
Two bedrooms with queen size beds. One bedroom with a double bottom and single top bunk.
Open-plan living and kitchen with bay outlook, covered deck, lawn, and a short walk to the rocky shore and rock pools. Wood heater plus reverse-cycle heating; outdoor firepit for clear nights. Comfortable for a small group.
Separate laundry with washing machine.
Guest access
You’ll have the whole shack to yourselves — living and kitchen, bedrooms, bathroom, covered deck, lawn, and the short path toward the rocky shore and rock pools.
Other things to note
Cooler months are a highlight here: quieter roads on the peninsula, crisp coastal walks, and whale season along the coast roughly May–November. The house stays warm; bring layers for outside.
Port Arthur Historic Site is about a 30-minute drive. Coal Mines Historic Site is closer on the same peninsula. Cliff lookouts and coastal walks are an easy day out; beaches and rock pools are a short walk from the shack.
