The space
This hand-built stone cottage is designed for two, with carefully chosen vintage pieces and modern comforts throughout. The open-plan layout includes a fully equipped kitchen with SMEG appliances, an induction cooktop, and a handcrafted copper range-hood. You will find pantry staples and everything you need for cooking, whether it’s a quiet breakfast or a hearty meal.
The living area features a vintage leather chesterfield, wood-burning fire, and a collection of books - including local history if you're curious. The dining area overlooks a private courtyard and is finished with unique touches like an antique bow saw and reclaimed timber details.
The bedroom offers a comfortable bed you can sink into with layered natural bedding, soft lighting, and views of the surrounding marri trees. You’ll wake to birdsong and feel close to nature, even indoors.
The bathroom includes a handcrafted copper shower and tapware, and character details like a colonial washstand and vintage towel hooks.
Outside, there’s a verandah to sit with a cuppa, a private courtyard with a fire pit for cool evenings, and plenty of space to watch the kangaroos pass by.

Discover the Local Area
There’s plenty to explore nearby. Visit the Giants of Mandurah trail for a magical outdoor sculpture walk, or see the ancient thrombolites at Lake Clifton, which are living rock-like formations that date back over 3,000 years. Grab a scoop and catch blue swimmer crabs in the estuary (in season), take a stroll along quiet beaches, or head off-road with 4WD access to White Hills. After dark, this is a perfect spot for stargazing, with clear skies and a peaceful stillness all around.
Guest access
The entire cottage, courtyard and surrounding area is exclusively for your use. We cherish the peace and privacy as much as you do, and therefore ask that you do not venture into the vicinity of the main house.
Other things to note
The cottage is about 40 metres from the main house, and 80 metres from the neighbouring property. We are about 100 metres from the road, and occasional local traffic can be heard.
Please kindly note that the cottage is not suitable for children due to the delicate furnishings and unique features within the cottage. However, infants are welcome, and guests are kindly asked to bring their own portable cot to ensure a safe and comfortable sleep for the little one.
Bed linen, towels and cleaning are included in our nightly rate. Basic pantry items are provided, including instant coffee, coffee pods (Lavazza), tea, sugar, milk, salt, pepper, vinegar, and olive oil.
Just over an hour from Perth and 20 minutes from Mandurah, named Australia’s Top Tourism Town, Red Gum Cottage is perfectly positioned near Yalgorup National Park, nestled between the Peel Inlet and the Indian Ocean. Surrounded by native bush and towering Marri trees, the area is rich in birdlife, with red-tailed black cockatoos and other native species often spotted from the verandah.
Beautiful beaches are just down the road, and the calm of the inlet offers scenic walks and quiet places to unwind. Whether you’re here for nature, stillness, or a slow weekend escape, this is where the bush meets the coast, and time moves a little slower.
