Adair is one of the oldest and highest residences in the Grampians. Built in the 1930s, the home is furnished sympathetically with the times and offers 4 comfortable bedrooms, a large air conditioned lounge, large welcoming kitchen/dining room, and a generous verandah with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. Kangaroos and emus are a common sight around the house, and walking trails from the house lead to some of the most spectacular views in the eastern Grampians.

The space
The highest residence in The Grampians, and the oldest house in the district, Adair is a 4 bedroom 1930s historic residence. The property shares a boundary with The Grampians National Park and offers stunning views over the surrounding countryside. This historic homestead comes with 25 acres abounding with kangaroos, emus, deer and birds.

Adair has accommodation for 10 people with 3 queen beds and two sets of bunk beds. It has three bathrooms: one bathroom is ensuite; the second boasts a shower and toilet; and the third, a toilet and a deep clawfoot bath - the perfect way to relax after a strenuous walk or a long day's sightseeing.

The kitchen is well equiped, with a 90cm electric oven, induction cooktop, microwave and dishwasher. It has a cosy wood heater, gorgeous bay window seat and a long table that seats 10, making it a perfect place to hang out with friends and family, chatting over a glass of wine or cup of tea or coffee made with the crystal-clear mountain spring water that supplies all the house's needs.

The lounge room comfortably seats 10, has a 50 inch smart TV and a reverse-cycle air conditioning for year round comfort and a cosy wood heater for those cooler months.

A 5 burner barbecue and comfortable outdoor furniture provide perfect alfresco dining on the spacious verandah, with an unparalleled views over the surrounding farmlands and out to the distant horizon.

Guest access
Guests have unrestricted access to all areas on the property. In the house they are free to enjoy: the lounge room with TV, DVD player, and a large selection of board games; unlimited free wifi access; a well equipped kitchen with electric stove and oven, microwave and large fridge and seating for 10 at the big table; and outdoor areas including a generous verandah with outdoor furniture and a 5 burner barbecue.

Guests arriving in 2024 should note that a bushfire devastated the area around Adair on February 13, 2024 destroying 48 homes in our tiny hamlet and severely impacting the surrounding countryside. While Adair survived completely intact and offers the same level of comfort and convenience as before the blaze, the scars of the fire are obvious. To learn more check out our historicadair website.

Other things to note
What we supply:
As detailed, the house is well equipped with the essentials necessary for an enjoyable stay. However, so that we don't attract rats and mice into the house, we do not guarantee that any perishable foodstuffs will be available other than instant coffee, tea and sugar. Guests should bring their own specialist coffee (there is a Breville expresso machine and coffee grinder), condiments, oil and milk. A wide range of basic foods can be purchased from the Pomonal Store (5 minutes away) or the Halls Gap supermarket (15 minutes away) of from the Stawell or Ararat supermarkets (20 - 30 minutes away respectively).

What to bring:
- Warm clothes in the cooler seasons (April -Sept) are essential to fully enjoy outdoor activities, hats and cool clothes in summer, and we recommend one set of clothing suitable for the opposite season, as mountain weather can be highly unpredictable.

- Sturdy clothes, footwear and hats if bushwalking.

- Binoculars for wildlife spotting and star gazing.

Hazards:
(Particularly for guests staying with small children.)

Adair is a country property, with attendant risks that may not be present in the city. While generations of children have grown up enjoying Adair's natural amenity, dangers do exist that all guests should be mindful of. Guests with small children are particularly advised to be extra vigilant against potential injury to their young ones.

- In winter the house is warmed by wood heaters which can get very hot and can present a burn hazard if touched.

- Outside, in the natural landscape, hazards such as the steep-sided creek contains unfenced pools of water.

- Wildlife encounters are common, but in summer they may occasionally include encounters with snakes. Unless taken by surprise, snakes will always try to escape before they can be seen, but if walking around property, we advise sturdy footwear and leg covering as a precaution against snakebite or other injury.

- Rabbits grazing on the lawns or in the long grass create divots which if unseen, can result in a trip hazard. Care should be taken when walking around the property, particularly at night.
