Other things to note

While Alfie and Griffin are confined to the host's private garden but will always enjoy any pats and hugs offered by dog-friendly guests.

Why the name 'Ginkgo' Cottage you ask? The Ginkgo biloba is one of the oldest living tree species in the world. It is the sole survivor of the ancient group of trees that date back to before dinosaurs roamed the earth! It's so ancient, the species is known as a living fossil.

We have a Ginkgo near our front gate!

Neighbourhood highlights

Evandale is a charming and picturesque historical village in Northern Tasmania - just 15 minutes drive from the Australia's third-oldest European settlement, the City of Launceston.

A National Trust classified Georgian village, Evandale is popular with tourists for its unspoiled heritage homes, community and business buildings, charming streetscapes, parks, and early graveyards.

Evandale is home to the world-famous annual Glover Art Prize, the National Penny Farthing Championships, and the ever popular Sunday Markets.

It's a great place to shop, eat and play.

There are two pubs, a great little BYO restaurant (No.10), Ingleside Bakery, a well-stocked supermarket and a takeaway.

Bring your credit card .. because the shopping is fabulous! There are antique shops, galleries, the impossible-to-resist Village Store, and Lake Leather fashions.

History buffs are welcome to access the Community Centre History Room and, of course, one of Australia's greatest Georgian houses and home of the Cox family, Clarendon House, is just 5 minutes down the road.

The Evandale Community Centre offers visitor information, a second-hand book shop ($1 books), a library, historical exhibits and records, souvenirs and the volunteers are passionate about sharing local knowledge.

One of the earliest Archer family homes, Woolmers Estate, on the outskirts of the nearby heritage village of Longford is a 10 minute drive from Evandale.
