Perched quietly on a secluded hillside, Candlebark Ridge is a truly off-grid tiny home immersed in native bushland, with expansive ocean views stretching beyond. Designed with intention, it’s a cosy, light-filled retreat where thoughtful simplicity invites you to truly slow down. Wake to birdsong, soak in the outdoor bathtub beneath a canopy of Tasmanian stars, and experience nature at its most restorative and serene.
The space
If fresh air, sweeping views, and a hint of adventure sound like your thing, Candlebark Ridge might just become your new favourite off-grid escape.
Perfect for a romantic weekend, a chilled getaway with a friend, or a solo “do-nothing” retreat (think books, coffee, bath, naps, repeat) - this tiny home has been designed for maximum relaxation.
Inside, the space is compact yet cleverly designed, with an open-plan layout that feels generous and intentional throughout. The standout feature is the king-sized bed, perfectly positioned against expansive picture windows that frame sweeping views of bushland, rolling farmland, and the ocean beyond - views that are truly better experienced than photographed.
Stretch out on the couch with a book, or raid the games stash if you’re feeling playful. The galley kitchen is stocked for creativity, with everything you need to cook up a storm - indoors or out - including a gas cooktop, outdoor BBQ, and even a Gozney Roccbox pizza oven.
The bathroom’s got you covered too: a fully-tiled shower, handmade ceramic basin, and an easy, eco-friendly composting toilet that’s refreshingly fuss-free.
When it’s chilly, the wood fire brings the cosy vibes, while a biodiesel heater takes care of instant warmth. Come summer, a ceiling fan above the bed keeps things cool and breezy.
Step outside to the deck and sink into the outdoor bath with a view. We’ve tucked a few extras in the outdoor box - blankets, cushions, sunscreen, and games - all the little things you didn’t know you’d need for the perfect off-grid stay.
Unplug, unwind, and settle into the slower pace. At Candlebark Ridge, off-grid living never looked (or felt) this good.
Guest access
Just a quick heads-up: our driveway is a bit of an adventure— so only All-Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles can make the trip all the way down to the car park.
Driving a Two-Wheel Drive (2WD)? No problem. You’ll just need to park up near the gates at the top and walk the final 50 metres down with your bags. Call it a mini nature hike to kick off your stay!
Once at the parking area, it’s 25 steps down to the tiny home — lit with solar lights to help guide you if you’re arriving after dark. That said, we highly recommend checking in during daylight hours. It’s much easier, and helps keep our local wildlife safe.
Once you arrive, it’s all peace, quiet, and the occasional bird call. Access is easy with a combo lock and key box — you’ll receive the codes in your arrival guide 48 hours before check-in.
Other things to note
Just a heads-up: there’s no Wi-Fi or TV here — and that’s kind of the whole point!
Candlebark Ridge is all about switching off, slowing down, and soaking up the peace and quiet. That said, if you’re with Telstra or Optus, you’ll get enough signal to stream your favourite show or movie on a phone or laptop.
We’re proudly off-grid and fully sustainable, which means we run on solar power, tank water, a clever grey water and grease trap system, and gas hot water. Our eco-friendly composting toilet is completely waterless and odour-free — it’s not as scary as it sounds, we promise.
If the weather calls for cosy vibes, you’ll find a stash of ‘tiny’ firewood under the Mini Meg wood fire, with extra supplies in the grey box leading onto the deck.
For your inner chef (or cocktail maker), we’ve stocked the pantry with the essentials: Ritual ground coffee, teas, hot choccy, sugar, rice, pasta, granola, olive oil, salt, pepper, and a mix of herbs and spices. You’ll also have a Moccamaster drip coffee machine, Arke carbonator, and cocktail goodies — including dried fruit garnishes for that fancy finishing touch.
Being remote has its perks, but we do recommend picking up your supplies beforehand. Hilly’s IGA in Saint Marys is your go-to — stocked with local cheeses, meats, fresh produce, and even gourmet pizza bases. The town also has a great pub with hearty meals daily, plus cute cafes and bakeries for daytime treats.
Our space is designed just for grown-ups. We don’t accept instant bookings with infants, children, or pets due to the steep, uneven terrain and lack of fencing. If you’re travelling with someone under 18, please message us to check if it’s suitable before booking.
We accept up to 3 guests per booking, and charge $50 per night for additional guests after 2. This is to cover the extra cost of cleaning the loft bed area.
This little retreat is the result of a whole lot of love, care, and elbow grease. We’d be so grateful if you treat it with the same respect we’ve poured into it — so future guests can enjoy the magic too.
